NEW SONY MPEG-4 NETWORK VIDEO CAMERA EXPANDS MARKET FOR IP SURVEILLANCE
Commercial
From the article:
Sony Electronics Inc. today introduced the SNC-RZ25N, a pan-tilt-zoom camera that enables remote viewing and high-quality video capture over existing IP networks through MPEG-4 compression
Sooooooo, Sony, tell me, are you packaging these as actual MP4's (unlike D-Link)..? Can I point these to a Darwin/QuickTime Streaming Server? Tell me tell me tell me...

Soooo... do Sony allow you to point it at a streaming server?
I'm totally confused by this whole MPEG4 thing. I can't find anyone, anywhere who is using a standalone network camera as a source stream for a proper streaming server (Real, WM, QT, etc).
Have you?? HELP! :)

Hi Paul,
No unfortunately, I don't know if it will work. I would like to try but I have not found any of these cameras available as of yet.
If they are like the cameras from D-Link, Linksys and others they definitely do not support streaming via a proper streaming server, but Sony is a completely different kind of company and may have the wherewithal to allow for it.
The Linksys network cameras have firmware which is open source so if you are a good hacker you may be able to make it work. No one that I know has of yet. It is on my "to do" list.
Good luck and please keep me informed if you find anything.
Thanks
